Sophrology

Yes, it’s a bit of a strange word when you see it for the first time, but don’t let that throw you off! After all, it’s one of Europe’s top wellness methods.

Taking its influences from both Western science and Eastern practices, sophrology is a mind-body technique that can help calm the mind and relax the body, resulting in feelings of wellbeing and renewed vitality. Sophrology has many health benefits, and is effectively used to:

  • Reduce stress, anxiety, and tension
  • Increase calmness and serenity
  • Improve sleep
  • Manage emotions
  • Develop self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Prepare for specific events: giving birth, exams, performances, competitions
  • Navigate difficult times: grief, divorce, personal or professional life changes
  • Accompany medical treatments and manage chronic pain
  • Discover one’s potential: improve concentration, reignite energy, unlock creativity

Drop-In Group Sessions

17€ / session

Drop-in sessions are based on general themes of personal development, from releasing tension and stress to gaining perspective, boosting energy and improving feelings of confidence.

Join us for 90 minutes of gentle movement, breathing techniques and positive visualizations to help you feel calmer and more grounded.

Groups are limited to 12 people maximum.

Everyone who signs up will receive:

  • Access to the session on Zoom
  • A PDF with the exercise instructions so that you can practice on your own
  • A link to the video replay

Group Sessions

120€ for cycle of 6 sessions

Throughout the year, I offer group sessions with specific themes, such as: improving sleep, stress reduction, or better performance at work. These sessions are not personalised but do allow the participants to experience the benefits of sophrology in a supportive way. Groups are limited to 12 people.

Once a week, we meet on Zoom and together go through exercises related to the theme. As with the personalised sessions, you will have access to the audio recordings and PDFs for home practice during the program and beyond.

I was regularly feeling quite anxious, but as we progressed with each session I started to feel calmer and at peace. The various exercises were easy to do at home and I learned to use them whenever I felt the need. It was empowering to feel the benefits of the exercises and to be able to practice them on my own.

Hi! I'm Marianne, certified sophrologist RNCP

I first came to know about sophrology when I moved to France in 2009. Coming from Canada, I had never heard of this wellness technique before, but it had me intrigued because I saw that it was so popular here in France!

When I came close to a major burnout in my last job (complete with my first-ever panic attacks), I started seeing a sophrologist to see if it would help me get back on track. In just a few sessions, I was able to manage my stress, let go of the pressure I was putting on myself and feel better in my life as a whole.

I’d love to share this technique with you so that you can experience first-hand the benefits of sophrology!

By letting go of what’s holding you back, you can discover your own resources and build your self-confidence, knowing that you are aligned with your true values.

In doing so, you can embrace everything life has to offer. (And who doesn’t want that?)

 

What happens in a sophrology session?

Each sophrology session follows the same format:

  • A brief time for talking
  • 3-4 Dynamic Relaxation exercises (standing or seated)
  • 1 Guided Positive Visualisation (seated or lying down)
  • A brief time for talking and sharing realizations or aha moments from the session
How long does each session last?

The initial session lasts around 2 hours.
Each weekly session after that lasts 60-75 minutes.

How many times do we need to meet?

Each individual sophrology program/protocol lasts for 8 to 12 sessions, depending on the needs and objective of the participant. Most programs last 10 sessions, including the inital intake and the final session. With weekly sessions, this generally lasts 2 to 3 months.

However, the timing can be adapted to your needs!

Is sophrology a therapy?

Sophrology does not replace any medical or psychotherapeutic treatment.

If you are working with a medical professional, sophrology can be a wonderful complementary practice, but only on the condition that you continue seeing your practitioner.

What do I need to prepare for each session?

You can come as you are to your sophrology session. You will need:

  • A calm space with enough room to safely reach overhead and out to the sides.
  • A reliable internet connection.
  • A chair for some exercises.
  • A potentional space for lying down.*

*During the guided visualisations, you have the choice of sitting or lying down. You can prepare a yoga mat or mattress, if you choose to lie down.

Do I need to practise between sessions?

Yes, there is a bit of homework!

After each session, I will send you the instructions and audio recording for the exercises we did together. You will choose a time of day to practise on your own as regularly as possible. The exercises take no more than a few minutes at most.

Sophrology is like physical exercise; the more you practise, the stronger you become.

Is there a lot of writing involved?

No, not at all.

If you feel it’s useful to you, you might want to write down your feelings and aha moments from each session, but it’s by no means necessary.

Do you offer refunds?

In signing up for this program, you are making a commitment to following through and showing up for our sessions together.

Since you pay for each session at the time of booking, you are agreeing to uphold your chosen appointement time. A minimum of 24-hours’ notice must be given if a scheduled appointment must be changed, otherwise the appointment will be considered forfeited.
